Collette Bristol had a traumatic start to her life in Redwood. She moved here with her mother and grandmother, to start a new life, away from her mother's abusive boyfriend and Collette's father. Unfortunately it seemed as though they hadn't traveled far enough. One sunny afternoon, not long after they all moved into the cute 2 bedroom house on Tinkleberry Lane, Collette's mother Anne Bristol was checking the mail before heading off to work when a car struck and killed her. Anne's mother Zoe was left to care for Anne's young daughter alone. Zoe and Collette later learned that it was Collette's father, Todd who was driving the car that killed Anne Bristol. An orphan, Collette remained in her grandmother's care, vowing to carry on her family's name to spite her late father's attempts.
Collette grew into a beautiful young teenager and flourished under her grandmother's care. Zoe however struggled to provide for the two of them and was always worried that her time with Collette was short. She taught Collette as much as she could and tried to provide a stable home for them. Collette was aware of her grandmother's shortening life span and decided to apply for early admittance to the local Redwood Forrest University. There she decided to major in Psychology because she wanted to become a teacher. Collette was always waiting for a call from home, informing her of Zoe's death. Fortunately the call never came, and Collette graduated early with honors.
After returning home, Collette decided to fulfill her desire to travel and took a lengthy trip, stopping first in the Mountains, then in the Far East. She enjoyed her travels immensely, but favored her time in the Far East. Here she learned all of the local customs and trends, and even met her future husband. She met Corbin Lostlar at the local market and they immediately struck up a friendship. Soon after, they realized they had something more. With three bolts of attraction for each other, they knew it was true love. They made plans for reuniting after Collette returned home to Redwood.
